Cause Hope

I have been creating quote images to use for the round up slices I give to students each day.  I make them in Photoshop with royalty free art, cloud shapes, patterns and the like.  I'm having fun making them. I typically prefer paper bits and glue collage to digital, but these are quicker and less messy.

Today's quote comes from one of my favorite young adult books, Looking for Alaska by John Green. Here's what I wrote to students on Bear English for our round up slice today:

It's day 10 and many of you have taken to writing your slices beyond what I'd hoped! I am delighted and amazed by writing you have shared. I find myself laughing over eyebrows and feeling the power of your futures in dreams described and social norms questions. You're doing it! Your writing! Let's keep going. Let's cause hope in others. Your words have that power.
If you'd like to see the set so far, find them on Flickr here. Hope abounds. Happy Sunday!

  1. I haven't convinced anyone to try classrooms ...yet. I will be excited to show other schools and what they are doing across the country. Would I be able to access from Flickr in the future? xo

  3. What a lovely way to encourage your kids. My students slice once a week and vote for two standout slicers who get prizes (jellybeans!). Whatever it takes to keep them writing and slicing, right?!

  6. Showing that you are thoughtfully taking the time to acknowledge their work is wonderful, Lee Ann. Better than points, etc. Words are matching words it sound like-what a gift you are giving.

  9. I love John Green, also. There are some amazing quotes to be found in his work. I also want to try prettying up the quotes as you did. Very cool. I'm so glad your students are doing well. Maybe some of them will keep writing!
